Stephen Starr's New American Washington Square has closed for renovations. The restaurant opened to much fanfare in 2004 with Marcus Samuelsson at the helm but made a name for itself in his absence (he left after six months) thanks to its beautiful garden setting.
Starr expects the renovations to continue until spring 2008 when the restaurant will reopen with a new name and theme. The buzz is that it will serve Indian food in its next life.
