Its a melting pot of JP locals in this loud, high ceilinged renovation of an old neighborhood dive. The food is varied scrumptious but one could die of thirst waiting in line for a drink at the bar.

I must admit that I was highly suspicious of this JP newcomer, since I'm still mourning the dearly-departed, down-at-its- heels Triple Ds. But, Alchemist delivers with a well-stocked bar (highly unusual in a neigborhood better known for Irish pubs). And, at $7 per cocktail, you really can't go wrong. Frankly, I could do without the neo-gothic decor and sleek granite bar that smack of generic "big-city" atmostphere, but

The best thing to happen to JP since Doyle's! Not too expensive but totally date-worthy.
