The Apple Barrel on Frenchmen St. is a great (albeit tiny place) to see live music in one of the best areas for live music in New Orleans. It's not much on decor (very eclectic would be the diplomatic term), but has a fun vibe and mellow atmosphere. Drinks are fairly inexpensive (approx. $4 for beers), but bring cash - they don't take any plastic.
