Washington Gardens is a great place for Italian food. The selection and quality of the meals is great. Additionally, their pizza's are the best around. Not only is the food great, but the staff helps to make each visit a special treat.

Alex's Washington Gardens remains the torchbearer of homestyle Italian food in the North Shore area. Homemade pasta dishes are savory and satisfying. Seafood is absolutely fresh and magnificently prepared. The Gardens serves the finest thin pizza in the area. Not a high volume operation, each pie is handmade. The decor has an oldschool charm. The staff is friendly and makes you feel like family. Stay for dessert.

Alex's Washington Gardens, an institution in Highwood, is now owned by Jim Stoecker, and the transition has been seamless. This is our favorite neighborhood restaurant even though we live two suburbs away. Great food, fine menu, and everything is always perfectly fresh and beautifully prepared. The long time staff is the best! Once you get past the cramped quarters, aged decor, and the small storefront locale, you will love it as we do.

I was in Chicago visiting family and took a large group to the Gardens. The service was great even for 12 people, the interior is beautifully decorated yet gives off a friendly feeling. Now the important part - the food! It was fabulous. Living the NY/NJ area, we're used to great italian food, and were blown away that it could be this good and authentic away from the world of the Sopranos. Entrees all good as well as soups and carrot cake!
