After calling the restaurant in advance and discussing in detail with the waiter my friends allergy to nuts, our first course alas shows up with walnuts. Luckily we recognized this prior to needing to call the ambulance. We pointed it out to the waiter and he was rude about it. 20 minutes later our app arrived sans nuts. The food was mediocre and overpriced, the service was terrible and frankly I would never go back even for a glass of wine.
has anyone tried Urbana since they got a new Chef???
This place misses the mark. The inexperienced server was alternately slow and intrusive. No plates were profferred for bread or appetizers. Calamari arrived in an awkward basket with a paper liner saturated with grease. Wine took 20 minutes and there was something floating in my friend's glass. A pumpkin ravoli entree had 5 ravolis and seemed more like an appetizer portion. Lighting was uneven and tables too wide to converse. Will not return.
This place is all about the vibe - the energy at the bar, in particular. I found the food to be "just OK", though - for me, it was a nice-looking cut of New York strip that unfortunately came out overcooked, and a really mediocre tiramisu; my dining partners also thought the food was average. So, a mismatch between style and substance here. Our 8:30 reservation wasn't honored until 9:15 - why bother taking reservations if you can't honor them?
Fantastic! Excellent, creative food; excellent service, and a truly beautiful space (though it can get a little loud). Nice wine list, from inexpensive gems to cult favorites. The night we were there it certainly lived up to potential. I WISH this place was in New York.
