I truly enjoyed my entire experience at the Almaz Cafe! The decor was really vibrant with bright green paint, creating a festive atmosphere. The service was so great and our waitress was really nice and had great recommendations. I got the chicken stew and it was delicious and was a really big portion with tasty sides. Overall a wonderful place that I would definitely recommend anyone to go to!

Love this place! My past experience with Ethiopian restaurants (Fairfax in Los Angeles) has been exceedingly poor service & very spotty cooking - sometimes bland and oily, sometimes fabulous. Almaz not only knows how to consistently turn out a properly seasoned meal (recommend the veggie combo), the service is quick & friendly and the clean coffeehouse atmosphere makes you want to stay for coffee and enjoy the WiFi. Breakfast & sandwiches too!

The coffee is bold and distinctive. The ice coffee satisfies absolutely. But, the Ethiopian food (the coffee is also roasted from Ethiopian beans) is the highlight. Ample portions never fail to satisfy and the owners are wonderfully friendly and cheerful. A wonderful place to meet a friend, study, or share some Ethiopian food served family style...don't forget to eat with your hands!

Almaz is one of the best new additions to the city. At first glance, it appears to be a quaint little coffeehouse with a pleasant staff and a nifty, Rittenhouse Square location. However, take a closer look, and you'll notice that it's an Ethopian Restaurant in disguise. Though it's small and doesn't look the part, the food far surpasses anything I've had at Dahlak, and it's less expensive. As another reviewer noted, the Foule is fantastic, as

I was so happy to see the Almaz Cafe open as the only good Ethiopian food to be found is in University City. The owners did a nice job sprucing up the interior and are very friendly. I have eaten there about a half dozen times now and cannot seem to get anything different than the "Foule" entree. It is fantastic! The portion sizes are large and I can rarely finish more than half of it. Good for lunch the next day. This is a great place for Vegeta
