Service was monumentally slow 45 minutes for my first course; to boot the food was a horror; my oyster stew tasted like a herb farm exploded in the bowl; my quail was over cooked and stuffed with some liver tasting mystery meat; the kail tasted like it had been swimming in chicken stock; there are much better places in boulder; I won't be back
This is an amazing place to dine - we got the 7 course tasting menu and it was fabulous - every part of it, from a glorified egg salad with trout for an amuse-bouche to the rich gnocchi with truffle butter, amazing entrees and tempting desserts - best meal I have had in a while!
Our most recent experience at Black Cat encouraged the kitchen to nuture us in any way they saw fit. After a particularly mediocre Veal ragout dish, which we politely commented on, the kitchen pulled out all the stops to make up for it. So refreshing that this criticism was taken as "I'm sorry, let us show you what we can do to make up for it" rather than the blaise attitude of the diner doesn't know what she speaks about. Off the charts amazing!
Unreal food that should be rated 27/28. I have had acclaimed fine dining meals in most major U.S. cities and this is up there with all of them. The menu varies with the season and is top-of-the line all around. I had a veal/mushroom dish with delectable sauce and my dining companion had veal stuffed quail. The celery root soup between the salad and main dish was perfect. I cannot wait to return to try the tasting menu!
Amazing dinner! What great food and service. I felt like we were in a big city, very polished. My favorite in Boulder hands down.
