Innovative and fresh cuisine at the Uni raw fish bar served in elegant surroundings. Service was efficient and polite. But very expensive even by Boston fine dining standards, so better left for those with expense accounts.
The food at Uni is perfect. Everything that I ate during my 8 course meal was awe inspiring both in flavor and presentation. Omakase at Uni will certainly put you in the poor house but I can't think of a better way to get there. The only critique I would make is that the wine service was a bit slow and one of our whites came out to the table at the wrong temperature. Surprising of such a high caliber restaurant but not a deal breaker.
The elegant setting gets you in the mood for great things to come. The Sushi bar in the back gives off some high energy to the otherwise conservative setting. Seating choices were given to us. But in general, one can dine peacefully. The night we were there they featured Scottish Salmon. It was the best salmon I have ever had. It literally melted in my mouth. In terms of wines, the list had a nice variety. I highly recommend this restaurant
The food was quite good: lobster and sea urchin roe in a foam for starter and rack of venison medium rare made a tender and tasty main. However, the room is small and the tables jammed together so that one can hardly pass in between. This makes the noise level unpleasant and impedes the service. The small bar is tended by a studious expert in cocktails and is a very enjoyable stop before dinner.
Orringer's eclectic food doesn't work with me. I really felt the food rated a 1. Even the $28/ounce steak was ruined by the sauce in which it was served. VERY DISAPPOINTED!
