Good barbeque. Still not up to the Redbones benchmark. But if you are close to Waltham and want a good all around and entertaining joint this is it.

While attempting to eat dinner and watch a Sox game, all people (5 in different parties) seated at the bar were requested by the asst. mgr to pay a cover charge for the band that had not yet commenced to play. All had entered the restaurant before 8PM, all had ordered dinner and the band did not commence until 9. Those objecting to the ridiculous request were requested to leave with owner acquiescence. My last trip to Jakes.

Long-time area residents will remember Jake and Earl's BBQ on Cambridge St., which then co-existed with its replacement East Coast Bar and Grill. The BBQ is alive and well at the Dixie Roadhouse and holds its own against some valiant meativore competitors (Redbones, Blue Ribbon.)

When the late, great Jake & Earl's closed in Cambridge's Central Square, some of the people who worked there moved out to Waltham and opened this place, which was trumpeted as the heir apparent. If it were only so. Good on occasion, almost inedible on others. Not worth the effort on the whole, sadly.
