Good portions, good food, but nothing fantastic. Short menu, but staff is friendly.
best seafood chowder in Boston, better clams can be found on the north shore, other seafood is OK
No frills no kidding. I don't mind going to a dive for good food at cheap prices, but there was nothing to redeem this place. The food was cold and tasteless. The seafood wasn't fresh (unforgivable in Boston). And the service was rude and nearly nonexistent. Stay away from this place. The notoriety is not worth the time and money, no matter how cheap it is.
We had heard all the hype about this place and were excited to go...but it was such a dissapointment. The Fried Clams were lousy and we did not bother finishing our lunch. The atmosphere is so old, musty and dated, it's depressing. Try the Barking Crab instead for a fun lunch spot nearby.
No frills = no taste. The waiter, a former Greek fisherman, recommended fried oysters that were disgusting. He apologized and replaced it with a bland, overcooked swordfish. The lobster and shrimp were flavorless. Oddly, I don't really like scallops but they were the best part of the meal. No frills usually means less expensive; for the same price we could've eaten at Cheesecake Factory and at least gotten some good dessert.
