Menu and portions have shrunk as time passed. We have been a number of times over the years but this most recent visit was the most disappointing. What used to be an ample appetizer--the spreads--has shrunk so there are barely a couple of teaspoons of each dip for four. Service remains high quality, but be sure to ask for a table in the back room if you want to be able to hear each other talk.
Food was incredible. All dishes were well-prepared and presented. Lamb shank was incredible - the meat was so tender and came off the bone so easily. Had a butternut squash soup that was "souperb." Not your traditional Moroccan belly-dancing restaurant like El Mansour or Marrakesh in San Francisco - Aziza is about fine dining and great food. I heard they recently received a Michelin star - if so, well-deserved.
You can call it a neighborhood gem since there is nothing around. It is cute and the food is above average. The portions are small for the money; so it is slightly overprized but again ... the only game in town. The wine list is VERY limited and they do not have the right wine glasses... but they are working on it. Espresso is great.
What a treasure for my wife & I. More than I expected. The food was impeccably prepared and served. We shall return soon and often. Thank you Zagat for turning us on to Aziza.
The most unique and exquisite SF restaurant--totally updates Moroccan food to bring it into the 21st century. Lahlou's a genius and pastry chef Melissa Chou matches the food perfectly. Entrees are sized small which is ideal, because the starters will blow you away--do not skimp and miss them! The bean and feta casserole pleased even my carnivore DH; meatballs & grapes delicious. Order the yummy flatbread as there's little starch with anything.
