$29 Lunch is one of the best values in the city. Overall experience is excellent but not clearly above or distinguishable from other top restaurants.
Atmosphere: getting old & noisy. Tables spaced apart well. Service started well and Melissa was very attentive, but by end, she faded and lost focus, e.g., took while to get our bill. Still reco: Mel for srvc. Food is touch disappointing. Had Winter & Jean George tasting menus. Started well, but Gnocchi was salty & venison tough. Black bass was tasty & foie gras excellent. Apple better than chocolate desert plate. Expensive for what you get.
Decor fair. Opening courses amazing. Amuse Bouche salmon/blood orange, duck consumme/ravioli great. Egg/toasts/caviar top shelf, foie amazing. Downhill after that. Each course got worse. Lobster & venison courses tough & chewy. Service was mediocre, we were asking for things by the end. Captain Eva was icy, hard to understand & unhappy when asked to repeat desctiptions, in a hurry to leave us, did the same to others around us. Disappointing.
One of the worst dinning experiences I have had in NYC…
Jean Georges is the Master! Possibly the best meal I have ever had - don't miss out on their $29.00 lunch. (I still can't believe the lunch is $29.00, but it is). May this restaurant have a very, very long run. 5 BIG stars!
