Great indian food on the "mild' side. We enjoyed the tender tastes combinations tremendously. Yet, somene who is looking for the strong, dominant and spicy flavuors may be disappointed.
The only Indian in New York where you can leave without having to wash your hair. Food isn't much. They only have one red sauce that fits all. Waiter was from Poland (in an Indian restaurant??) and couldn't comprehend that you bring out the appetizers and then, later, you bring the entrees. Brought all together. Busboys were clumsy and dropped 2 trays behind our table within a half hour. Got the red sauce all over people at 2 tables. Very loud.
Food was disappointing and sparse. Servers seemed intent on increasing our cost with more expensive choices and little advvice as in prior visits.
Great food, nice ambiance, decor a little dog earred in spots and you won't confuse the service with "friendly", but they know what they are trying to do at Tamarind. This Indian is as good as we've had anywhere and we can't wait to go back there.
Still the best Indian restaurant in the city. This is top level - London/Mumbai - food. If you like watered down curries at cheap prices this is not the place. No compromises here. Hope they keep it up. Update: They are keeping it up. Note: This is not the place to order vegetarian curries. Ttheir masala lamb chops are a baragin -- would be in the $30s elsewhere. They are doing something right - jammed last friday; no recession here.
