We looked forward to visiting this Portland Monthly-ranked venue, especially having won "Best Wait Service." The salads were excellent, but the rest was very disappointing. My black cod smelled 'fishy." While the presentation was elegant, there was nothing else on the plate. My wife's Coq au Vin/Spatzle dripped with butter, other's quail was just OK, & Gnocchi over-rich. One waitperson for 6 large tables was completely insufficient.

The restaurant dining room is hardly "austere" as stated above, I found it a fusion of modern panache blended w/ wood accents & simple stylish features that balance function and elegance. The service was outstanding-the best I have had in PDX-utterly flawless & worthy of Michelin. The menu is appealing for its breadth but individual dish construction & execution needs refinement & discipline eg. burnt hard potatoes aside lovely lamb-Fd 24. Srv 26

The Cafe (located next to the dining room) is a more casual experience, and has the best burger in town. Ignore your cholesterol for one day and savor this incredibly flavorful hand-formed patty topped with traditional fixings. Go for gusto - add blue cheese crumbles and wolf down some excellent frites on the side. Carnivorous bliss.
