Underwhelmed and still feeling peckish. The dining room is of average size, with matching average decor. Our expectations were high, given the staggering $55 pre fixe, 4-course menu. Remember, this is Portland. Add wine (from a rather small, mediocre list) and you're walking out with a much lighter wallet. The highlight was the chestnut and pecorino agnolotti with prosciutto. No cheese dessert option, unless you beg. You'll be given Manchego. Meh
yummy burger and pots creme
The cafe has the best burger in Portland.
We looked forward to visiting this Portland Monthly-ranked venue, especially having won "Best Wait Service." The salads were excellent, but the rest was very disappointing. My black cod smelled 'fishy." While the presentation was elegant, there was nothing else on the plate. My wife's Coq au Vin/Spatzle dripped with butter, other's quail was just OK, & Gnocchi over-rich. One waitperson for 6 large tables was completely insufficient.
The restaurant dining room is hardly "austere" as stated above, I found it a fusion of modern panache blended w/ wood accents & simple stylish features that balance function and elegance. The service was outstanding-the best I have had in PDX-utterly flawless & worthy of Michelin. The menu is appealing for its breadth but individual dish construction & execution needs refinement & discipline eg. burnt hard potatoes aside lovely lamb-Fd 24. Srv 26
