Formerly my favorite Atlanta restaurant (for food – not decor or service), I've had two less-than-5-star experiences here in the past several years. This past weekend's experience: good food, not great. Quality and creativity seem to have declined a bit, with many pedestrian choices on the prix-fixe menu (and, surprisingly, on the cheese cart and wine list). Desserts were very disappointing in both presentation and flavor.

Service and food are excellent. Staff is gracious, knowledgeable, and attentive without being intrusive. Food is well prepared and artfully presented. Wine list is extensive and the wine pairings with the prix fixe are well matched. The decor is more industrial than I expected in a restaurant of this level and the room was noisy. Overall, this was a very good evening.

Dining at Bacchanalia seems to be less about the customer, and more about the theatrical production of the chefs and servers. With an often overly complicated menu, several courses were superb, while others left us less than impressed. The service was exhausting with too many wait staff constantly hovering and interrupting, and one with a voice like a foghorn who could be heard around the room. It was good, but not overly impressive.

This is my favorite place in Atlanta, and possibly the US. Go here for the food. It is always imaginative. The wine pairings routinely enhance. The service can vary but is typically top drawer. The setting is unusual but I like the urban vibe. Bring your wallet.

Bacchanalia offers some of the best food in Atlanta. The service is awesome! The atmosphere is lacking! My first thoughts walking into the restaurant were that it was beautiful then I immediately changed my mind. At some points of my meal I was turned off by the ugly-white-brick walls and failed attempt to renovate the decor. Some people enjoy the 'more casual' atmosphere, which is fine but I like a slightly nicer vibe.
