I reserved 2 months in advance, the maximum allowable and we were led out of the Grand Salon into a tiny, claustrophobic ante room . It took them 20 minutes to present a menu; I believe they forgot about us altogether. Food was uninspired. The only thing that was monumental about this venerable Paris institution was the pricetag. The Grand Salon, where 90% of their patrons sat (but not us) is one of the most beautiful dining spaces in the world.

It's not true that you have to be a "French aristocrat" to be treated well here. Not only my wife and I, but also at the next table a table of what seemed to be French shopwomen, were all treated quite warmly. My wife and I will be going back for our third prix fixe lunch, the price for which is even more of a bargain when you realize later that day that you don't need dinner. Plant your tush where Napoleon planted his.

We made a reservation but upon arrival saw that the appetizers are 100 euros, the main courses 150 euros and more. We cancelled the reservation.

Sadly, not what it used to be. Still excellent but in Paris excellent just doesn't make the grade.

Having dinned here more than 8 years ago we came back to check on the food and service. The place is already worth the visit, the oldest restaurant in Paris where Napoleon went for dinner!
The food was as good as we recalled, the service is very attentive although stuffy, very Parisian. We had somme of the classics and some of the new dishes, everything was excellent up to the desserts. Certainly still one of the top spots in Paris. A must !
