Drove from NY to eat at A&J Rockville - it's that good! Authentic Northern Chinese small dishes. A&J Rockville taste equal to Taipei's. Try the Pan fried beef bun (Nui Ro Xian Bing #4101) it's better than US hamburger any day! The juicy flavored ground beef is wrapped in dough and pan fried crispy! Open your mind and palate and experience real Chinese food at A&J.
The value was fantastic - we shared 5 small plates and a large noodle bowl and 2 beers and only paid 22$ for both of us. The pig ear was soft and I like it deep fried but I'm sure this was authentic. Scallion pancake was a bit too greasy but the noodles were good but a bit heavy. Service and decor was enjoyable.
Many Chinese eating there, but I wasn't impressed with the food. The onion pancakes were pretty dull and dry and none of the food except the soupy noodles were interesting. Service is not great.
The place is crowded, noisy, and service chaotic. As former regular, my wife and I were often moved a smaller table after seating. We noticed non-asians consistently received better treatment. We finally returned again. They again denied a good table and offered it to (caucasian) couple behind us. The couple were then offered an even better table. I've never been treated like this anywhere else. Can they make this discrimination more obvious.
