Rather than "Tex-Mex", this is really just another same-old, same-old. Service is sophmoric and the kitchen couldn't figure out how to put my several a la carte selections together on one plate, instead of four plates. But it's consistent and reliable and there's nothing better for this kind of crispy taco, refried bean orgy.

This is, truthfully, just another run-of-the-mill Mexican joint similar to Guapo's. It doesn't hold a flame to Uncle Julio's in Bethesda, and even Alero and (from what I've heard) Los Cuartes win in the food category.
I've usually gotten a "combo" plate and thought "meh." Last time I went though I got tacos al carbon and they were really tasty. Margaritas are OK but we had to ask for more tequila for them. Service is good for large groups.

I LOVE Cactus Cantina! No other place can top it. Their fajitas are the best ever. The swirl margaritas are my drink of choice. More casual than Lauriol Plaza and parking is a bit easier too.

Let's be honest, people.....standard, Tex-Mex fare is quintessentially mediocre. Atmosphere sets it apart...great drinks, with a consistently delicious cilantro/lime-infused salsa...and, as expected, over 100 different ways to combine chicken, steak, onions, and peppers.

Life is too short to eat mediocre food.
