Basic French fare in a warm environment, La Chaumiere brings the ambience of old-school France to Georgetown. Expect old favorites with local ingredients, including Hudson Valley foie gras. Prices are reasonable, though service is lacking polish.

Flavorless pate, a pedestrian, overly salted dover sole, and a tough and bland chocolate souffle topped with an overly sweetened creme anglaise made up my dinner this evening. I'm glad I wasn't paying this restaurant's exorbitant prices for mediocre food in a tired setting. La Chaumiere seems to be riding on its reputation rather than producing a quality dining experience.

Well-named: the warmth of the fireplace extends to the warm and welcoming attitude of the staff and the homey nature of the cooking. Waiters can guide you to the best choices on the menu, but watch out for the prices of the daily specials, which can be double the price of other entrees.
