Although pricey, 701 is good for a special event: lovely setting, nice atmosphere. The service is attentive but not intrusive. Although not prominently presented, the pre-theatre special menu is a bargain. Portions are adequate but not excessive, so you can enjoy flavors without overeating.

Had a 4 course Valentine's Day dinner that was impressive, though they did overcook my steak. The lamb chops were possibly the best I've had. Even more surprising, the macaroons. Service was friendly and warm. Very nice scene.

701 continues to provide enjoyable dining in the Pennsylvania Avenue corridor. The halibut was outstanding and they do good things with beef as well. Equally important, the wine list has some reasonably priced offerings and the servers seem knowledgeable about its contents. It's nice to see a restaurant maintain its consistency over the years.

Be a local: have the twin burgers at the front bar with Mo. Go on Friday or Saturday after ten to hear the best jazz combo in the City, with no cover or minimum. You'll experience one of the best values in Washington and have fun, fun, fun.
