Wow, what a disappointment! On its face Christophe has all that we like: chic ambiance, tasting menu with wine pairings, and great reviews. We did the larger tasting menu with wine pairings. The wines were very young (all were '08s and '09s), not served at the appropriate temperatures, and poorly paired with the food. The food was very bland and served lukewarm. Service was, at best, modest.
Creative French-Mediterranean food, expertly prepared and presented. Very professional and discreet service. Quiet atmosphere for conversation and appreciation of the experience. Contemporary but not trendy aesthetic.
On my worst day, I could have cooked better than what I was served tonight. Would you serve over-the-hill sea bass over a bed of mushy sauteed spinich, asparagus, pea pods, and zuchinni? The price fixed menu came with a starter of poached over-the-hill salmon and another piece of fried cod over sauteed spinach. The sweetbreads were better but overpriced. Perhaps you should take another visit and justify how you awarded Christophe for food.
The food is indeed inventive, which is what we prefer. For those who yearn for fine food with complex flavors in a "non-fussy" but very classy setting this is the place for you.
Had high hopes since this was a birthday surprise for one of our best friends. Left somewhat disappointed ...
