As much an experience & sushi education as it is a meal, as it should be at these extortionate prices -- NO bargain despite the absurd Met analogy. Sit at the bar if you can, and don't be afraid to ask your chef & Mr. Takayama questions -- you're paying top dollar, you're entitled. One caveat: they serve sushi and ONLY sushi, and you eat what is put in front of you. If you love sushi, it is paradise; if you don't, there is no reason to go.
NOT worth the money. the prices are ridiculous 8000 dollars for 9 people and the 20% charge was surprising it was theft. It was very hot in the room i could barley breath.
We were highly disappointed in our overall experience at MASA. The cost of the meal was ridiculously overpriced. No food, no novelty or specialty dish can justify $1450 for two people. One would think at those prices you would be blown away with the quantity, quality and presentation of food. Nothing is further from the truth at MASA. Although the sushi and the KOBE taste good, there was nothing unusual about the taste or how they serve the meal
The experience varies tremendously depending on whether you are served by Masa, and they will not confirm seating at Masa's station (at least not for us -- even though we had been there several times).Even though the sushi bar was empty they refused to seat us at Masa's station although we had made that request when we booked. Masa is a fine chef, but the other chefs are variable and none are of a caliber to justify these prices. We won't return.
