This is what food should taste like... I was as impressed with Per Se, as i am with French Laundry I loooove loooove loooooove this place..... From start to finish, they even gave us a tour of the immaculate-amazing kitchen.....this is simply what food should be It was transcendental
The food is excellent. We both got the supplemental foie gras. It was amazing, but so rich that it was a mistake to get two of them. The service was amazing, and the waiter was very nice. The decor is a little '70s, but the view is great. We arranged for wine pairings and I highly recommend that. I still prefer the French laundry, the vegetables and ambiance there are unbeatable, but Per Se is definitely worth the trip.
A real treat had my 13th wedding anniversary there it was great all around a real winner
Excellent food. The extra supplement charged for the duck foie gras terrine cheapens the tasting menu experience. The sommelier was very helpful. The decor is now a little dated, and the staff while improved from my previous visit, it is comical that their jackets are not tailored to each (our waiter clearly had a jacket that was al least a size too big for him, and his sleeve is definitely too long.)
I can appreciate the skill and care that goes into this food. Taste, quality and presentation are superb. But, for me, each dish is so refined that it loses the character of the food. The wonder and excitement is cooked right out of it. I'm always glad to go ... if someone else is paying. But, there are other top tier restaurants that are more memorable and enjoyable for my money.
