At the Earle we usually order a variety of appetizers plus a pasta dish and a dessert to share. Usually we love everything --- with the memorable exception of, long ago, a particular eel dish ... ew. The wines are excellent but can consume a lot of your budget. Still, a really great glass of wine, combined with the food and the surroundings (a very old brick-walled cellar, high-ceilinged and dark) make for a can't-miss night out.

We came to Ann Arbor to celebrate our son's birthday, who is a student at University of Michigan. He had a fabulous time -- he loved the atmosphere, the service is wonderful. Caprese appertizer was fresh; risoto ball appertizer is light and cheesy, which is really good. Both steaks Sauted Beef Tenderloin Bourguignonne and Sauted Beef Tenderloin with Roquefort are excellent. My Sauted Duck Breasts is tender and quite tasty.

Very dark cave atmosphere. Would probably have been romantic if I had not been there by myself. I had the beef Bourguignonne which was rather bland but the scallopped potatoes and haricot verts were very good. The desert was also nothing to write home about; a Pear and Apple cake in a creme sauce.

If you're going to eat at The Earle - eat at the bar. The menu is as good, the food more simple and cheaper and the service faster. The mussels are a rare Ann Arbor dining bargain

While the main entres were very good, the service was only fair. After we decided to not order a bottle of wine, there was much less interest in our table. Our table was too small for our party--we kept bumping knees and there was not enough room to be comfortable. The cost estimate is a little low--even without alcoholic drinks, our bill with tip was $50.00 per person. We might try again, but our expectations would be lower than the revi
