Wonderful restaurant. The food was excellent but not self-important. There were a number of "locals" eating when we were there. Service was attentive and the food was some of the best we had in Tuscany.
This restaurant is all about the atmosphere-lively and fun for sure-but the food is simply "OK". Loved our servers, good wine list but again, the food is "meh". Definitely caters to the tourists (you won't see any locals)-celebrity photos adorn the walls. If you are a serious Italian foodie, skip this place, you won't be impressed. If you prefer a more Americus styled food experience, you will probably like it (but we won't go back).
You either love the show or don't. For us it worked. We thought that the decor also worked. The service was excellent and it was one of the few places that showed some interest in the wine service. The food was better than most we had in Florence and we enjoyed all the extras. On the whole, this was one of the most enjoyable dinners we had in Florence.
The room was filled with tourists, some of whom were photographing their food. The wine steward's showmanship was over-the-top and uncalled for by the basic, if expensive, chianti. The pasta was excellent, but the second courses were badly prepared, one had a sauce so salty it was barely edible. In a word, disappointing.
Our meal at La Giostra was the most memorable of our trip to Tuscany. The atmosphere and decor is charming, the service helpful and friendly. Above all, the food was outstanding. The pecorino and pear ravioli were like nothing I had ever tasted - I'm still dreaming about them. I had bronzino cooked in a red wine sauce and topped with sliced cherry tomatoes - it was heavenly. A fabulous dining experience
