A must-do! The Shake Burger is the best bet, but the NYC hot dog is also a solid choice. The frozen custard is so delicious. It's like eating sweet cream! The line looks intimidating but moves fast because of the efficient separate order and pick-up locations.

The division of the line for placing orders reduced waiting time at the service counter. The waiting area was cramped, however. Most of the servers were friendly, in spite of the crowd. My double Shackburger was rich, flavorful and composed of two ample, high quality meat patties. My fries were crispy and nicely seasoned. The 'shroom burger was also very flavorful. Regretfully, the Dark and Stormy custard was somewhat bland.

Burgers are incredibly good, and certainly not too greasy. Fries are great as well. Shakes are tasty, but not as special as the hot food. Lines can be really absurd and seating at Madison Sq is limited - but miraculously we always find a table, even when it seems hopeless during the wait.

Essentially gourmet fried fast-food burgers, these gems start with quality beef to which is added a bun with just the right heft, tomatoes that rival the beef for freshness, lettuce and the Shack sauce which compliments but does not overwhelm the beef. There is limited seating at the Columbus Circle location, but the tree shaded benches across the street by the History Museum are where you want to go. Fries are OK. You can even opt for a beer.

Nothing memorable about this place. The burgers are fresh but they're a bit greasy. They are a few rungs up the ladder from McDonalds' burgers. I'd probably put them equivalent to the In Out Burger of CA. They're popular now, but I'll bet their time will pass just as Krispy Kreme. The lines are long but they move fast. Their frozen custard is nothing special --- you might as well go to Emack and Bolios on Amsterdam for some good ice cream.
