Weekly Planner: Beer Events, Book Signings & More

Cypress Street Pint & Plate features an evening of special beers on Tuesday, January 14, when San Diego's Ballast Point Brewery takes over all of the Midtown restaurant's tap lines. Variety's the name of the game, as Ballast Point will offer up its Sculpin IPA, Sextant Nitro Stout, Victory at Sea Coffee Vanilla Porter, Calico Amber, Tongue Buckler Imperial Red and Fathom Imperial Pilsner all night long (817 West Peachtree St. NE; 404-815-9243).

On Thursday, January 16, Restaurant Eugene (pictured above) hosts a special book signing and four-course dinner with master baker Lionel Vatinet. A Passion for Bread: Lessons from a Master Baker is Vatinet's new book, and a copy is included in the $100 cost (wine pairings are an extra $35). Vatinet, of North Carolina's La Farm Bakery, will sign books during a cocktail reception starting at 6:30 PM; the four-course meal starts at 7 PM. Holeman & Finch has put together another of its semi-regular alcohol-and-food classes with "Academy of Bartending: American Whiskey, An In-Depth Study and Tasting." On Saturday, January 18, starting at 11am, the restaurant's mixologists will discuss production techniques, history, style differences and more. A number of rare whiskeys will be on hand for sampling - which explains the $200 tickets - and one of H&F's sought-after burgers is included in the price (2277 Peachtree Rd.; 404-948-1175).
