It’s April 15, the dreaded tax day, and since many of us are probably feeling cash poor, we thought we’d raise your hopes by highlighting a few places where you can eat well and keep as much money in your pocket as possible. Check out these treats for both quantity and quality.

Mandola’s

Order the meatballs a la carte and you’ll find yourself the lucky winner of three enormous meatballs in chunky tomato sauce as well as more than enough focaccia bread for a meal, all for $4.

4700 W. Guadalupe St., 512-419-9700

Tam Deli

Banh mi never tasted so good as at this place, where you can get a hefty traditional liver pate sandwich on an ultra-fresh baguette for $3.85.

8222 N. Lamar Blvd., 512-834-6458

Sandy’s Hamburgers

Whenever we’ve had a bad day, we hit up this old-timey stand on Barton Springs for a classic burger, fries and Coke, which runs a mere $4.69.

603 Barton Springs Rd., 512-478-6322

Freebird’s

The Austin chain’s enormous burritos will make you forget all about that check to the IRS. Get a loaded Hybird chicken burrito for $5.49 and drown your sorrows in guacamole.

515 S. Congress Ave., 512-462-3512
