The 7 Best Micheladas in Austin

By Megan Giller
August 6, 2014

Take a break from the heat with a spicy michelada at one of these hip places around town.

Hotel San Jose
The clear winner in the competition, San Jose keeps its recipe close to the heart. Pro tip: Nosh on a cheese plate poolside.

Takoba
Housemade michelada mix makes all the difference here, as does a refreshing base of Dos Equis.

El Sapo
This joint ain’t giving you the recipe for its special sauce. The menu lists the ingredients as Twisted X beer, chile rim and secrets.

Polvo’s
Tear yourself away from the margaritas and pick your favorite beer for a killer customized michelada.

El Chile
Let the frosty, wide goblet and acidic nectar break summer's sweaty hold on you. Add a fun, youthful atmosphere and you're set.

Sazón
The South Lamar spot happily explained michelada to us: mi (my) chela (slang for beer) helada (iced) = my iced beer! Pair your beer with lime juice, Worcestershire, Tabasco and plenty of ice.

El Alma
It’s kind of cheating to put this one on the list, since it’s almost the same recipe as at El Chile, but it has the added benefits of olive juice and a fabulous patio.
