Has Portlandia (the IFC show) inspired its own wine? An Amazon search reveals two varietals of "Portlandia" wine - Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc that don't seem directly inspired by the show. However, one bottle's label features a photo of black frame "hipster" glasses and on the other you'll find a vintage bike. Hmmm. Rainier Wines produces it and describes it as: "Peaceful, concerned, edgy wine from the famous grape growing region of Oregon. These idealistic wines demand your attention with depth and drinkability for every occasion. What makes portlandia special is its view on life—play hard, work later—like only an Oregonian can understand. Cheers!" [Amazon]
A press statement reveals that Nashville hot spot The Catbird Seat will be getting former Noma sous chef Trevor Moran: "We're very excited to welcome Trevor to Nashville and see the next iteration of The Catbird Seat. Since we opened The Catbird Seat two years ago, our vision was to be a place where young chefs can express their creativity with no culinary boundaries. Trevor is extraordinarily talented and takes a unique team approach to his cooking, so I know the creative minds collaborating in our kitchen are going to create some amazing dishes." Can diners expect a bit of Scandinavian influence with this new addition? Stay tuned.
And finally, California bartenders will now have to wear gloves when preparing drinks, in accordance with a new law that also affected chefs (as reported last week). The LA Times has the full story. [LAT]
