Sharpen your pencils and open your notebooks. Or really, just roll up your sleeves and tie on your apron, because there's going to be less note-taking and more nosh-making at the Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE), which just announced its fall lineup of chef instructors. It may not be Le Cordon Bleu, but the BCAE tends to attract a consistently solid roster of local talent, and the upcoming slate is certainly worth scoping. Each session features an interactive cooking class, plus additional bells and whistles depending on the course.
Here's the schedule: on November 5th, Hell's Kitchen alum and Tremont 647 chef Andy Husbands will lead a Brew & Chew alongside Idle Hands Brewing. On November 12th, upsize your skills with the small plate-focused Tasty Tapas class led by Deborah Hansen, chef-owner of Taberna de Haro. Chef Pino Maffeo of Lucia Ristorante will serve up One Dish Wonders on November 18th, offering recipes for hearty, single-plate feasts, while chef Peter Hansen of The Cottage will highlight the sophisticated side of Comfort Food on December 2nd. Monday, December 9th, Jeff Fournier of Waban Kitchen will lead Behind the Line, part of a series that replicates the experience of a working kitchen, with students hustling to create meals for actual dinner guests. And finally, Lovin’ Holiday Leftovers on December 16th will see chef Alex Saenz (pictured) of Lineage team up with Ashley Stanley, founder of Lovin’ Spoonfuls, a nonprofit that helps distribute perishable food that would otherwise be discarded. They'll show us how to make new, real meals out of those holiday dinner leftovers we'd otherwise toss out. For info on specific class times and costs, head here.
