Top Boston Chefs Team Up for Tailgate BenefitBy Scott Kearnan
October 17, 2013
It's a good time to be a Pats fan. (If also a time prone to nail-biting, hysterical screaming and barely avoided heart attacks. Have a little mercy, guys.) But foodies will want to mark their calendar for a different type of tailgate experience on the horizon: on Sunday, November 10, nonprofit Lovin' Spoonfuls will host its third annual Ultimate Tailgate Party on the waterfront lawn of Sam's. Yeah, we know it seems early to think about November weekend plans, but the pricy tickets and sure-to-sell-out lineup of culinary MVPs warrant early notice. The roster of participating chefs includes Jeremy Sewall, Michael Scelfo and Daniel Bojorquez, who will offer previews of their highly anticipated restos Row 34, Alden & Harlow and La Brasa, respectively. Then there are 17 (!) other all-stars who will serve up creative takes on their favorite tailgate food: including Jamie Bissonnette of Toro and Coppa, Jason Bond (pictured) of Bondir, Mary Dumont (Harvest), and Colin Lynch (Menton, No. 9 Park). Add cocktails, a silent auction, live entertainment and (lest we forget to mention) an appearance by former New England Patriot and three-time Super Bowl champ Matt Light. Serve: one winning benefit for Lovin' Spoonfuls, an organization that collects food from restaurants and grocery stores that would otherwise be discarded, and distributes it to city soup kitchens, homeless shelters and crisis centers. That's something we can all cheer about. Tickets are $100 general admission (7-10 PM), $250 for VIP, which includes an early 6 PM entrance for chef meet-and-greets and a special tasting from L'Espalier chef Frank McClelland. Get them here.
