Sneak Peeks of Two Upcoming RestaurantsBy Scott Kearnan
March 27, 2014
Every day the Zagat team works to bring food lovers sneak peeks at the most important places and plates in town: from early glimpses at anticipated restaurants to first looks at full menus. But now two inventive new series are offering another way for industry watchers to stay in-the-know.
On Thursday, April 10, the Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE) will launch its new "R&D Restaurant Series." Standing for "Research and Development," the culinary program will give participants a chance to get a first taste - and in some cases, look - at an upcoming restaurant. Chefs will test out their menus, whetting appetites and gaining feedback before the final roll-out. And guests might even have the chance to go inside a still-unopened spot - as they will during the kick-off, which features chef Rachel Klein's intimate debut of her menu for Liquid Art House. You can read it here, but BCAE ticket holders ($35 here) will actually have a chance to taste a launch menu that is described as a "a multi-sensory artwalk of global street food, dumplings and other surprises." The advance tasting includes wine, and the evening (6-8 PM) will end with a private tour of the restaurant. (A rendering is seen here.)
Meanwhile TR Street Foods, the neighboring take-out sibling to Tavern Road, just launched its new "Chef's Studios" series. The monthly events will feature a different local chef debuting a never-before-tasted menu to an intimate crowd. Mark your calendar for Monday, April 14, when Jade Taylor will unveil her latest for Bondir, and Monday, May 19 when Chris Bauers will bring out his newest culinary ideas for jm Curley. Tickets for each installment are $55 and available here.
