Weekend Planner: April 25-27By Scott Kearnan
April 25, 2014
Friday-Saturday. It's still a little early for a Provincetown pilgrimage, but if you're a food fan and up for an April outing - here's an excuse to head down. On Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26, the Sage Inn & Lounge will host Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge, pictured, better known as the titular stars of the The Cooking Channel show The Fabulous Beekman Boys, which follows the couple as they work to turn their farm into a full-fledge empire. The weekend includes several different events, including a Friday night "Spring Stomp" with line dancing, discussion and cookbook signing session with the guys, and a "Tomatoes Four Ways Farm to Table Dinner." Get all the details and respective RSVP info here.
Sunday. Dust off your Australia references and pull on your fat pants. On Sunday, April 27 you can hit the fourth installment of the Mick Dundee Challenge at the East Boston Shipyard (256 Marginal Street). The event is hosted by KO Pies, the local purveyor of traditional (and frequently, non-traditional) Australian meat pies, and will unite more than a dozen notable restaurants to serve their takes on the flaky favorite. From 3-6 PM you'll Neptune Oyster, Ribelle, Coppa, Tavolo, Temple Bar and many more angling to be recognized as Sunday's best. Each ticket is $53.74 and admits up to five people; get them here.
Sunday. An entire auction that revolves around restaurant packages? We can't raise our paddle fast enough. On Sunday, April 27 from 3-6 PM, Dinnerfest 2014 will go down at Red Lantern. The Back Bay pan-Asian will offer hors d'oeuvres and (cash bar) cocktails during this fundraiser for Victory Programs, a vital local multi-service organization that provides support, residential facilities and treatment options for homeless individuals struggling with substance abuse and/or chronic illnesses like HIV/AIDS. Your ticket ($60 here; $70 at the door) gets you access to over 120 auction items focused on food and beverage: including elaborate dinners at Boston Chops, L'Espalier, Mistral, Toro, Blue Ginger and more. And every bite - er, bid - supports a great cause.
