5 Ways to Fuel Up or Wind Down on Black Friday

By Sarah Freeman
November 27, 2013

While we will be hiding in the safety of our apartment on Black Friday, with a Tupperware full of Thanksgiving leftovers and 12 hours of television, we respect those who make the bold decision to go out shopping. If you insist on braving the crowds for those can’t-miss deals, restaurants around the consumer epicenters are here to help with Black Friday specials.

Epic
Headed to the Mag Mile to do some retail therapy on Black Friday? Stop by Epic restaurant in River North after battling the crowds on the busiest holiday shopping day of the year. Bring in proof of your holiday spending and receive 25% off the bill from 11:30 AM to 5 PM.

Goose Island Brewpub
Chicago’s quintessential brewpub is dealing with Black Friday the only way they known how - with black beer. Starting at 11 AM, different rare varieties of barrel-aged stouts will be served. The day kicks off with the 2012 vintage of Bourbon County Stout and continues with Bourbon County Cherry Stout at 2 PM, Bourbon Country Coffee Stout at 5 PM and Cthulhu Barrel-Aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout at 8 PM.

J. Rocco Italian Table & Bar
It’s going to be a cold, crazy day on Friday, so unwind with a bowl of soup, housemade focaccia and a chocolate mint martini for $12. This deal runs all the way through New Year’s, with soup specials ranging from toasty minestrone to mussels soup and pumpkin soup to sweet pea with a side of fluffy focaccia. Say cheers to your new shoes with a martini featuring cognac, espresso, mint cordial and chocolate porter syrup.

Roka Akor Old Orchard
If the suburbs are more your style, the new location of Roka Akor in Old Orchard will debut its new brunch menu on Black Friday. Sneak away from the mall shoppers with blue crab cake Benedict, the yuzu tart with macerated sour cherry or sesame cake bread pudding with compressed figs and vanilla bourbon syrup.

Tavernita
If you will be out and about with family and friends, then stop into this River North hotspot for a hot plate of paella. The Black Friday paella is the first of what will be several seasonal paellas. The special paella is available for $17 and is big enough to share.
