Mindy Segal Plans Logan Square BakeryBy Sarah Freeman
November 25, 2013
Cookies, breads and pastries - oh, my! James Beard award-winning Outstanding Pastry Chef, Mindy Segal, is opening a very sweet treat for the Logan Square neighborhood. The focal point of her new bakery will be a daily bread program, with cookies and traditional bakery fare coming in a close second. The 6,000-square-foot facility was inspired by Segal’s honeymoon in Paris, where she traveled from bakery to bakery sampling traditional French desserts.
Her plated desserts will still have a home at her Bucktown restaurant, Hot Chocolate, which has been open since 2005. The bakery, on the other hand, will act as a hub for "rustic, earthy and fresh" baked goods. The bakery and adjoining warehouse will be located in the 2300 Block of North Milwaukee Avenue come this summer, adjacent to several other coming-soon venues such as Chicago Distilling Company, The Radler and a new bar from the Scofflaw team.
