It's high season for fruity drinks. Muddled, shaken and stirred, we've got 9 must-try cocktails for summer.
Lillo & Ella
Drink: Burong Mangga Cobbler (above)
Details: The Garden Oaks restaurant rocks a killer cocktail combination (light, fruity… and deceptively potent) of Manzanilla sherry, date syrup and spiced rum with pureed salted mango.
Drink: Peach Bellini
Details: The loaded frozen treat is a blend of pureed peaches and sugar topped with Prosecco. For only a buck more, infuse it with strawberry liqueur.
Price: $8 (get a free sample Saturday and Sunday during brunch).
Drink: Smash & Grab
Details: It’s worth stealing time away from your busy day for the downtown watering hole’s riff on a whiskey smash. St. George Breaking & Entering bourbon (the inspiration for the drink) muddled with strawberries, blueberries, mint and honey.
Axis Lounge at Royal Sonesta
Drink: Passion Fruit Pisco Sour
Details: The swank Galleria-area hotel bar offers a cocktail that makes you wish you were poolside. Control Chilean Pisco and lemon juice balance passion fruit syrup; tangy bitters and a frothy egg white add the finishing touch.
Drink: Blackberry Mojito
Details: Muddled fresh mint and Texas blackberries mixed with rum, soda and simple syrup. The pleasing purple drink at the Med Center locale is brightened by a pop of lime juice.
Drink: Italian Greyhound (above)
Details: Happily drink your way into fall with the refreshing cocktail at the Rice Village Italian restaurant. San Pellegrino Pompelmo gets boozy love from grapefruit vodka and Aperol (an Italian aperitif).
Drink: Singapore Sling
Details: Sippin' on gin and juice — add a beat to your step with the gin-pineapple cocktail, tricked out with black cherry brandy, grenadine, triple sec, lime juice and a splash of bitters.
Americas River Oaks
Drink: Classic Paloma
Details: Tequila is the spirit of choice in the luscious pink libation. It gets a healthy dose of fruit from grapefruit juice, grapefruit soda and candied grapefruit zest.
Nara Sushi & Korean Kitchen
Drink: Strawberry Soju Bellini
Details: They had us at strawberry and Prosseco. But the cocktail at the West Ave restaurant also includes Soju (a vodka-like rice liquor), making it downright heavenly.
