The Donut Craze Takes Over HoustonBy Marcy de Luna

Are donuts the new cupcake? The breakfast treat seems to be popping up everywhere, including the soon-to-open Glazed the Doughnut Cafe. Its menu promises creative options, including sangria, bananas Foster, and eggplant and Parmesan (what!), plus innovative glazes like Dr Pepper. Here are four more gourmet donut joints sure to sweeten your morning.
The Grove Do-Nutz & Deli
It's worth the drive to Richmond for over-the-top donuts, including the Vietnamese iced coffee (infused with chai spice) and Fire in the Hole (fresh jalapeño, bacon and cheddar cheese). The can't-miss banana pudding donut comes with sliced bananas, vanilla wafers and from-scratch vanilla pudding (pictured above).
Pena's Donut Heaven & Grill
While the dosant (the house take on a Cronut: part croissant, part donut) is a signature at the Pearland locale, there's a special place in our heart for the candy-centric Reese's Pieces donut. You can never fail with chocolate cake and whipped peanut butter, especially when it comes with icing and a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup garnish.
River Oaks Donuts
There’s not much we don't love about the donut shop on Westheimer near Buffalo Speedway. That includes the cereal-topped iced donuts. The weekend-only special comes with your choice of Cap'n Crunch, Cookie Crisp, Fruit Loops or Cocoa Crispies (pictured above).
Pure gluttony; we can't get enough of the yeast-rise donut with rich white vanilla icing and an Oreo cookie crumble at the Spring-area shop.
