Best Thing We Ate: Banh Xeo at Xoia

We know that Xoia isn't the most authentic Vietnamese restaurant in town. After all, it's in Echo Park and is known more for pho tacos than pho, and crazy-but-tasty fusion things like curry mashed potato chicken tostadas with sriracha crema. But when in EP, do as the EPers do. We popped in for a quick lunch and gravitated to the banh xeo, tumeric crepes stuffed with shrimp, beef and sprouts. On the side, look for big lettuce leaves for wrapping and a sweet peanut sauce for dipping. The savory pancake is a little thicker than a crepe, at least when we had it, but you do get more flavor in every bite. For a quick $10 meal, it's great. Xoia's a good spot to keep in mind when you're headed to a show at the Echo (across the street) or Echoplex (around the corner), and especially for Echo Park Rising, the free music fest taking over the neighborhood this weekend.
