Monday, July 7: There isn't a lot that can ease the pain of those post-long-weekend blues, but maybe a new summer squash dish at ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen will help. Wok-cooked with Thai chilies and basil, you can get it with any of the noodle and rice bowls throughout the summer. At least it's better for you than all the hot dogs, burgers and beer from the Fourth of July holiday.

Tuesday, July 8: According to legend, two lovers, represented by the stars Altair and Vega, are usually separated by the Milky Way. But every year the meet around the seventh day of the seventh month, so July 7. In honor of this celestial event, Tanabata Festival are celebrated throughout country in July and August. Closer to home, chef Kunkio Yagi celebrates in her own way at Hinoki & the Bird, where she'll serve special five-course tasting menus throughout the month. The menus change based on Yagi's visits to the market, and are limited to 10 people a night, Tuesdays through Fridays from now until July 31. A dedicated sake menu will also be offered to pair with the specials. Call 310-552-1200 for reservations.

Wednesday, July 9: Head over to Bourbon Steak in Glendale for special deals throughout the month and year. From 11:30 AM-2 PM, Monday through Friday, there's a burger lunch deal — a burger or sandwich, salad or fries, soda or iced tea, and a fresh-baked cookie — for only $19. And all-day on Wednesdays, now through July 31, choose from three top-shelf whiskeys for only $5 each.

Thursday, July 10: The Grand Central Market is now open for dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. That means you can stop in for a pizza at Olio, some brisket and beer at Horse Thief BBQ, a salad at Valerie or a burger at Belcampo Meat Co. up until 9 PM. And now that there’s booze in the market, well, it’s a win-win.

Friday, July 11: You can now get breakfast burritos at Cofax, the new coffeehouse from Jason Bernstein and James Starr of The Golden State and Bludso's Bar & Cue (and Noah Galuten, pitmaster at the owners’ bbq joint). Courtesy Galuten, the burrito is stuffed with smoked potatoes, chorizo, cheese and eggs, and is available every morning starting at 8 AM until they run out.

Saturday, July 12: Michael Cimarusti and Donato Poto have extended the popular $80 tasting menu at Providence in celebration of the haute seafood restaurant's ninth anniversary. Get the four-course deal now through the end of the month. It doesn't include tax, gratuity and beverages, so that's on you.

Sunday, July 13: In honor of Bastille Day, which is July 14, Bouchon in Beverly Hills has specials at the bistro, bakery and bar. Think: grilled saucisson with forest mushrooms, or Dungeness crab crepe at brunch, and tarte flambee and bouillabaisse at dinner and $2 oysters all day at the raw bar. For the kids, there will be balloon artists, face painting and other French patriotic fun.
