Those looking for a bright new spot for brunch around Downtown should seek out Jist Cafe in Little Tokyo. Getting high marks for its take on American-meets-Asian breakfasts and brunchables, you'll find things like porky omurice, ketchup-fried omelet rice with hickory ham and demi-glace; pork belly chashu hash with six-minute eggs; and at least this week, now that fall has arrived, pumpkin-chai or apple cobbler pancakes. The sunny spot is owned by Glen Ishii, who grew up working in his mother's Little Tokyo restaurant, Tokyo Garden, and was also exec chef at Noe at the Omni downtown, and Caroline Shin, one of the founders of Kogi. Stumptown coffee, mimosas and soju Bloody Marys are just what the weekend ordered.
