Murray Hill is slowly but surely adding more culinary street cred to the ‘hood (in addition to Salvation Taco and Middle Branch), Whitman & Bloom Liquor Company will join the mix on October 7. Executive chef Eldad Shem-Tov of Alain Ducasse and Aquavit, is behind the stoves and whose menu focuses on rustic dishes influenced by his Mediterranean background. Items like housemade breads start at the wine bar, and are paired with cured meats and Hudson Valley cheese.
The 100-seat bi-level dining room will be serving up small (but not-too-tiny) plates of fresh ravioli with burnt beets, poppy seeds and sage butter; pickled fresh sardines, tomatoes, red onion and oregano; or the aged ribeye roast beef with pickled charred cabbage and bone marrow-herb vinaigrette. Desserts run the sweet and savory route with fruit marmalade and butter crumbles topped with whipped sour cream and fennel seeds.
Behind the bar, Darryl Robinson creates cocktails featuring a modern twist on American classics like the Earl with New Amsterdam: gin, earl grey tea, honey syrup, lemon juice and mint leaves.
And bonus: there’s a working fireplace – just in time for fall.
