Anglophiles rejoice, the new U.K.-inspired eatery and “modern gin joint” called The Winslow is now open in the East Village. Upscale British bar fare created by chef Luis Ulloa will include seasonal (but not stuffy) plates such as bacon-wrapped quail and the traditional fish 'n' chips, and just for fun, crumpets get the star treatment with fillings ranging from sour cherry and honey to duck confit with goat cheese. The latter go well with one (or several) of the 20 British beers on tap.
And let’s not forget the gin. The juniper-heavy beverage program was created by Dominic Venegas of NoMad fame, and signature sips have been made with housemade-flavored tonics and botanical-heavy ingredients like orange, cucumber and bee pollen that are designed to compliment each variety of gin.
The homey digs boasts non-intrusive TV’s that are hidden when not in use (but essential for football season), a 20-foot front bar finished with a chalk white concrete top, swanky chandeliers and a back bar embellished with fumed oak and blackened steel. In a nutshell, it’s the kind of place you can bring your buddies, a date or your mom - in no particular order.
