Hurricane Steak & Sushi, Bistro La Promenade Shutter

By Billy Lyons
January 3, 2014

The old saying "out with the old, in with the new" is ringing true for a few restaurateurs already this year. As Eater reports, The Hurricane Club's transition from pu pu platter palace into the trendy Asian-style steakhouse Hurricane Steak + Sushi failed to keep the reservation books packed. On December 28, the Flatiron eatery served its last customers. Father and son owners Alan and Michael Stillman, whose credits include Midtown's Smith + Wollensky, are planning to open a new restaurant in the spring, though the new concept has yet to be announced. Elsewhere, Eater adds that the Stillmans seasonally rotating dining room Park Avenue, which shifts its menu and interior design based on the current season, is looking for a new home after its lease expired at the end of last year.

Additionally, Alain Allegretti's Bistro La Promenade has also thrown in the towel. Eater notes the French restaurant, which opened in Chelsea back in September 2011 (as Promenade de Anglais), was closed by the chef so that he could focus on Azure, his restaurant at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City. We have yet to hear who might take over the former French bistro, though with the recent news that Sushi Seki is coming to 23rd Street, we're anxious to see who might become its new neighbor.
