By Danya Henninger

Flip through the slide show, then head over to vote in the Philadelphia Restaurants Survey. You’ll get an Uber credit just for participating, and the people who leave the three wittiest reviews will score a free Nexus 7 tablet. Andiamo via, e buon appetito!

  • Melograno

    Cost: $42

“Bring earplugs” and a “great Chianti” to Gianluca Demontis’ “sleek” Italian BYO in Rittenhouse, where “must-have pastas” and other “rustic” “Roman delights” emerge from his “open kitchen”; though you’re “packed in like sardines” and the noise can be “unbelievable”, while occasional “rudeness” is de rigueur, many conclude it’s “in a league of its own.”

“Order lots of plates and share” the “magical” “peasant cuisine” at Marc Vetri’s “hip", “loft-y” “Roman trattoria” around the corner from his “mother ship” in Washington Square West, where “personable” service helps compensate for the “factory”-like din; while it’s “more merciful to the wallet” than its elder sibling, some caution you still may “go away hungry or broke, whichever comes first”, thanks to small portions that “Jenny Craig” might approve.

"Bring your bonus check" to experience chef Chris Painter's "inventive" takes on modern Italian cuisine at his and Stephen Starr's "intimate" storefront "splurge" in Rittenhouse; the "portions are small to allow for several courses" (you may find yourself "ordering more than you should"), and meals are enhanced by "smooth wine pairings" provided by a "lovely" staff that keeps an eye on you "without going overboard."

    Le Virtù

    Cost: $49

"Craveable fresh pasta", "housemade salumi" - "you cannot go wrong with anything" on the "rustic" menu at this "casual" yet "elegant" Abruzzese "destination" in East Passyunk Crossing where "the pig head sits in the kitchen in full view" (on weekends) to remind that this is "not your standard red-sauce Italian"; while some think the "servers need more personality", others "feel well cared for", and the "lovely" outdoor garden is an added bonus.

    Cost: $33

The "kicked-up, creative" Italian fare at this "adorable", midpriced South Philly BYO is worthy of "any foodie's list", and the "charming" owners make "everyone who enters feel like a family member"; there's lots of "good karma" in the "homey" setting that "could be your living room" - basically, it's a spot that "clicks" in any month.

"Tuscany" is just a "cab ride" away courtesy of this "pricey" Spring Garden "treasure" where the "bustle and warmth" is "conducive to conversation" and chef Jeff Michaud's "robust", "inventive" Italian cooking makes "every mouthful a delight", from "savory, crispy" pizzas and "house-cured" salumi to "creative" handmade pastas matched with a "mouthwatering wine list"; "knowledgeable" service orchestrates a "fantastico" experience in which the Vetri Family's "golden touch is apparent."

  • Modomio

    Cost: $40

"Every dish pops with flavor" on the moderately priced four-course Italian ‘turista' menus at Peter McAndrews' "modest" BYO trattoria near Northern Liberties, which many deem one of the "best deals in the city"; the service is "knowledgeable", although a few find it "quirky", while others complain that the space's "horrific acoustics" make "lip-reading" necessary; P.S. don't forget cash, and "reservations are a must."

    Vetri

Acolytes attest "heaven on earth" can be found in an "unassuming" townhouse in Washington Square West, home of Marc Vetri's flagship Italian, a "gastronomic tour de force" that's "high-end" "without being ostentatious", offering "sublime" cuisine and "professional" service; while you may have to "raid your 401(k)" given the figures listed on the prix fixe-only menu, it's on just about "everyone's bucket list."
