This Friday marks the start of the Chinese New Year and the beginning of the Year of the Horse. After you spend Thursday evening taking in the midnight parade and lion dance through Chinatown, try out one of these feasts and specials around Philadelphia.

Bar Ferdinand
Spanish theme notwithstanding, chef David Ansill is determined to celebrate the holiday at this Northern Liberties spot, since he loves Chinese food so much. On January 31, he'll be offering a special mash-up menu featuring seven courses of Spanish-Chinese tapas. Look for General Tso’s sweetbreads, a pupu platter with shrimp toast and long life duck noodle soup. The dinner is $45 per person; call for reservations (215-923-1313).

Buddakan
From February 1-9, Stephen Starr’s Old City Asian is offering a special menu of the dim sum we just explored behind the scenes. Offerings include a $14 “pick three” dumpling platter and a hoisin-glazed pork belly (215-574-9440).

Sampan
The glowing walls of Michael Schulson’s Midtown Village will be a great surrounding for the special Chinese New Year menu offered throughout the week following the occasion. Look for the restaurant’s famous pot stickers, dan dan noodles and other Chinese-inspired bites. The chef hadn’t quite finalized the menu yet, so call for more details (215-732-3501).

Kermit’s Bake Shop
From now through February 14, the Washington Avenue bakery-pizzeria is offering a special General Tso’s chicken pizza. Chef Brian Lofink’s pie is topped with twice-fried chicken, mozzarella, carrots, bell peppers, broccoli and hoisin-chile sauce and is finished with a drizzle of Sriracha. The 18-inch pie runs $20 (267-639-4267).

Sang Kee Peking Duck House
The Chinatown outpost of this noodle shop is putting of the dinner celebration until February 24 and 25. Make reservations for either night to enjoy a $35 per person, all-you-can-eat banquet party starting at 6:30 PM (215-922-3930).
