Your daily roundup of Philly food tidbits
• MTV is about to debut its first food-focused reality show, and according to the Philadelphia Daily News, three Philly-area brothers are behind it. House of Food premieres Monday, March 31, at 10 PM, and features seven (rather good-looking) amateur chefs living in a house together and taking on culinary challenges. As Marcos Espinoza tweeted, the subtitle might as well be “Please use your knives to stab your housemate in the back.” Watch a trailer here.
• New chefs were announced for two Philly restaurants today, we learn via The Insider. Aimee Olexy has hired Jeremy McMillan to replace Sean McPaul at Talula’s Garden and Talula’s Daily. McMillian was most recently at the Bedford Post Inn in upstate NY; he’ll start here April 14. In Old City, Donal and Jen McCoy have tapped Devil’s Den alum Matthew Daggett to run Serrano, as well as revamp the menu at upstairs nightclub Tin Angel.
• Dining Out for Life returns to Philadelphia for the 24th year on Thursday, April 24. Anyone can be a hero and raise money to fight HIV/AIDS on that evening simply by eating at one of 150 participating restaurants. To illustrate the point, a new Dining Out commercial features Ted Allen, Pam Grier, Daisy Martinez and Mondo Guerra as animated superheroes. Hokey ad, but great names and a great cause.
• Get a close up look at our favorite real-life action hero chefs in this clip from 6ABC’s FYI Philly. The camera follows Marc Vetri, Jeff Michaud and Brad Spence to Precision Jui-Jitsu, where they work out and learn to fight one another several days each week. You have to get all that kitchen aggression out somewhere - might as well get in shape and bond while doing it.
