Preview of New Menu at Tashan, Launching Monday

On Monday, November 7, chef Kirti Pant will launch her first official menu at Tashan, Munish Narula’s high-end Indian fusion restaurant. The current menus were developed by opening chef Sylva Senat, who departed just before summer (he’s now consulting at The Saint James in Ardmore). Pant - originally hired to run Tiffin Bistro in South Philly - was promoted to “corporate chef” and tasked with taking over the dining room at 777 Broad as well.

A preview glimpse at several of her new offerings suggests a slightly less European take on Southeast Asian cuisine, as many of the dishes are Indian classics. There’s bharwan baingan (baby eggplant stuffed with nuts and tomatoes), masala lobster and vindaloo boar chops with cucumber raita. A foie gras torchon hits the fusion note - the liver is served with a cumin chutney.

To go along with the new eats is a new wine and cocktail list. Drinks have always been a strong point at Tashan, which dedicates nearly half the interior space to a well-appointed bar and lounge area. (The restaurant scored a 2013 Wine Spectator Award of Excellence.) A couple of the new sips to look forward to include Blood and Sand (with Johnny Walker Black and Cherry Heering) and the Ceasefire (El Jimador reposado, Cocchi Americano and soda).
