PYT Does a Deep-Fried Twinkie Burger

The latest burger of the week to come out of PYT in Northern Liberties, Philadelphia may be the bar’s most over-the-top creation yet. (For a kitchen that’s done a spaghetti burger, a fried-lasagna-bun burger and a bacon-shell taco burger, that’s saying a lot).

Twin deep-fried and battered Twinkies serve as the bun for the new creation, sandwiching a 50-50 pork belly and beef patty that’s topped with strips of crispy bacon and American cheese. When you bite into the calorie monster, sweet Twinkie filling oozes out and mixes with all the salty flavor from the meat and cheese, making a combo that’s actually not half bad.

But still, we wonder, did this creation really need to exist? Apparently so. When asked what led him to unleash it on the citizens of Philadelphia, proprietor Tommy Up is blunt. “Sorry, someone had to do it,” he offers. Sorry-not-sorry? Ok, apology accepted.

P.S. if you absolutely must try the deep-fried Twinkie burger, show up when doors open at 11 AM on Tuesday - the first 15 orders of the burger will be given away for free (after that they'll go for $12 each).
