Washington Square soon won’t be the only neighborhood with a brand new gourmet market that also turns out high-quality sit-down meals (see: Talula’s Daily). This October, Tela’s Market & Kitchen will open on the ground floor of a new condo building on the corner of 19th and Fairmount, offering fresh ingredients and prepared foods, as well as family-style dinner events.
On the market shelves you’ll find produce from local farmers, coffee from San Francisco's FourBarrel, seafood from Viking Village in NJ and meat from Pat LaFrieda and DeBragga & Spitler. Chef Chad Williams is in charge of the kitchen, which will produce assorted hot dishes, sandwiches, salads and more, either to grab and go or to enjoy in the seats at the shop’s cafe area.
Williams spent time at several Jose Garces restaurants, including as chef de cuisine at Chifa, and as a preview of the dinners to come at Tela’s, he’s holding two pop-ups at JG Domestic this month. The first is set for Sunday, September 15, and features a family-style meal with complimentary drinks for $85 per person.
Look for Creekstone Farms beef tartare, Jersey corn chowder and slow-cooked Lava Lake lamb, paired with beer from Forest and Main Brewing. Dinner finishes with a bing cherry ice cream. Seats are very limited; e-mail Williams to reserve your spot. If you don’t make it to this preview, note that there’s another one planned for Sunday, September 29.
